My passion for learning has grown continuously throughout my life—both through my experiences as a student and my development as a teacher. These experiences led me to Michigan State University, where I earned my B.A. in English and Teaching English as a Second Language as well as my Secondary Teacher Certification. Teaching allows me to connect the best of all worlds--my fascination with the English language and literature with the tremendous opportunity to empower students to transcend the personal and social boundaries in their lives. My experiences at Pattengill Middle School and Waverly High School in Lansing, Michigan, the Detroit School of Arts in Detroit, and now here at PAE have all shown me the great satisfaction and pay-off that comes from equipping students with literacy and critical thinking skills—particularly with second language learners.
As the ESL Coordinator/Teacher at PAE, my time has been fully devoted to developing an effective program designed to meet the needs of a very large demographic at our school. I am a faculty member of the Cultural Unity Club at the high school level as well as a part of the School Improvement Plan teams for both middle and high school. Desiring to provide my students with all the tools they need to succeed, I also participate regularly in PAE's After School Tutoring program. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, family and friends, discovering great new books, writing short stories and poetry, experimenting in the kitchen, learning how to salsa dance, and distance running.
